Our new Mamie Street Style Icon is Abbey McCabe. Abbey is a long time family friend whose style we have always admired. She always looks so put together! Always! When Abbey lived in the neighborhood, we would see her entering her house even from the gym looking so flawless and well coordinated. And when Amy and I spot Abbey in her Shopmamie purchases, she of course has them styled perfectly. So of course, Amy and I mutually agreed to pick her as our Mamie Street-Style Icon..we had to learn more about how she looks so fabulous.
About Abbey: Abbey grew up in Wilmington and went south to UVA for college where she met her husband, Casey. She has now been married for almost 5 years and has two children, Hudson, who just turned 3, and Barrett who is almost 4 months. Yes, she just had a baby 4 months ago and looks that great! Along with being a wife and a mom, she is a nurse in a Pediatric ICU. Learn more about Abbey in our style Q & A below.

Q: Can you describe your personal style? Do you have a style inspiration? For example, is there someone or something that inspires your personal fashion choices?
A: I would define my personal style as classic with a twist. I tend to choose more traditional pieces and try to add something to make it my own look, whether it be a scarf, a key piece of jewelry or fun shoes. I like an updated look but not the uber trendy styles that will fade quickly. My style inspirations are Rachel Bilson and Reese Witherspoon. I love that Rachel never looks like she’s trying too hard and I like that her style is laidback and comfy but also very feminine and flirty. Reese has a great “mommy” wardrobe–styles that are practical for getting down and dirty with her kids but still updated and fresh.

Q: What is one of the best purchases you’ve ever made and why? Have your favorite pieces changed from pre-mom to mom?
A: One of my favorite purchases was a apricot colored Burberry cropped jacket with oversized gold buttons–again, a traditional coat but the orange hue makes it stand out and different from the rest. One thing that I’m stuck on now is silk blouses, very feminine and sophisticated. Not the most practical piece for a mom of 2–a little dirt from my son’s trucks and spit up from my baby girl really adds to the look. I would say my style choices are similar pre-mom to now mom-of-two–I’m still drawn to simple dresses that can be dressed up or down and coats and blazers never get old to me. My shoe choices have probably changed the most…heels are a rarity these days. It’s too tough to juggle the kids in heels for now, so I mostly wear tall boots or flats. Definitely looking forward to bringing heels back into the picture one day:)

Q: How do you dress to fit your body?
A: After having 2 kids, my body has changed a bit…I look for long shirts to pair with skinny jeans or leggings and favor little tanks with high-wasted skirts. I don’t like anything too snug all over—if I’m wearing snug pants, I like a soft, flowy top.
