Today I ran out of town with Harper to meet Doug for lunch in a park near his work. It ended up being kind of a shat-show because he emailed me and asked me to be there in 15 minutes, but to pick up food and get gas prior. Well it all worked out in the end! I an wearing the dress I got from the Shop Mamie Sweetest Thing Contest, I figure it was an appropriate mini-dress for a mini-date.
Since everything happened so fast I never got a chance to go wee-wee before running out of the house, I took Harper the the nearest “bathroom” a.k.a. Nordstrom. Lies, Nordstrom is a 10 minute drive from here, but its 25 from my house so I what can I say. Harper had her first shopping hissy fit today. She refused to leave Forever 21. She insisted on walking around, I couldn’t touch her or redirect her or she would loose it. I couldn’t shop because Forever 21 is a nightmare of racks and stairs and pedos. Well I don’t know about the pedos…but I suspect. It was pretty funny and saved me from spending any money.
It got really hot out, so now this is what I am wearing, though I get annoyed when I get a little time to take pictures and the lighting is all wrong, I had the camera on the wrong setting and I was too far away. Harper is up from her mini-nap now so I am done with me time for the the day. Oh well!

I am digging my monotone look today. A chill in the air and the warmth of the sun creates a perfect temperature for light jackets and tights! When I received this dress from the lovely ladies of Shopmamie, I was waiting for the perfect day to wear it. Her day to shine has come. I am loving geometric patterns right now and these dots are classic and carefree. I wanted a little extra polish so I added this chunky necklace I bought from Jenni. Hellllllooo DOTTY!

Where: Manhattan meetings and Brooklyn BIKING!
Why: I am obsessed with this necklace… it’s so bold and such a statement… I can tell I’ll be wearing it all summer. Although there’s tons of ways to wear it, I felt like a neutral background would be best. This blouse is the black version of the peach top I styled at the ROXY event I was at this winter. Not a ton of hanger appeal but once on - it’s awesome. I felt really chic an casual in this outfit and it was perfect for both of my earlier meetings (which went well), so… when I got home Adam and I went to the bike store and I picked out a brand new set of wheels!!!
My old vintage bike was lovely, but with a heavy steel frame, and a hilly neighborhood, it wasn’t great. Also, after a winter outside, it’s extra rusty. Boo. My new bike is light and cute and I can’t wait to pose with her for some outfit photos over the weekend. As I name many inantimate objects in my life (here & here), I’m thinking Jacqueline or Franchesca for my Italian bicycle. Do you name your car or bike?
Date nights are fun. Do you go on dates with your significant other? I mean, I guess if you go anywhere with your hubby it could be considered a date, but for us to make some nights out seem more special than others, we like to label them as designated “date nights.” I also like dressing up a little bit just because its fun and you get to wear things that maybe you normally wouldn’t other wise.
Shopmamie was kind enough to let me pick something from their shop and I was instantly drawn to this little black dress. Who doesn’t love a good ol’ black dress, right? Well, this one has some flare and is a little more my style than something super plain. Its really fun with the ruffled skirt and its super comfy. I dressed it like 10 different ways before I settled on this for the night. I am totally looking forward to wearing it again after baby because I know it can be styled so many different ways.
I was just on the shopmamie site and they have so many super cute dresses right now!! I kind really love this Lilly dress or the Sparkler Dress. Oh man I love summer dresses!

P.S. I am so excited to share Week 19 Baby photos tomorrow they are my FAVORITE yet!! They came out so good. We changed up the style just a little. Yay!!!

Why: Hallelujah! That first warm day! The first day hot day! I broke a sweat just walking around in the neighborhood! Ahh!
Well, after running around all morning in shorts and a tee shirt I knew it was going to be a hot one. While strapless seersucker most likely comes into play mid summer, this dress was begging to be let out of the closet. Just to play up the summery vibe I paired it with a white woven belt, espadrills and wet hair (a summer favorite of mine!)

Why: This morning I came across this photo and knew straight away I wanted to wear one of my old IU tee shirts. Most of them got chopped up and put into a quilt (because really, sorority/frat party little 500 tees are not acceptable day wear anymore) but a couple of nicely roughed up school shirts were saved. I love how this tee has aged on its own after almost 10 years of regular wear (bed time, gym time).
In other news, I’ve been really craving a trip to Bloomington!

Trench: Coach

Dress (as top): ModCloth
Jeans: Mavi
Where: Wanted to go to breakfast, ended up just being a coffee run (wasn’t feeling so hot yesterday)
Why: When I was in high school, it was very taboo/tacky to wear the same thing someone else had worn first, especially in the way way. Luckily, I am so over that and had fun participating in another round of a Delightful Dozen styling challenge. This piece is from ModCloth and I gotta say, I love the way the other girls put it together!

Speaking of, today’s post features blogger from (Le Proust Vintage, Jen Loves Kev, Orchird Grey, Idee Geniale, Selective Potential and Sally Jane Vintage)
How do you feel about wearing the same pieces as other girls? Does it push you to get more creative or make you feel like one of the masses?
Up until yesterday afternoon, I had no idea if I was going on a week long, tropical vacation to Honduras, starting TOMORROW. My passport had complications. I wore a headband in my original photos that I submitted (Darn you Mel for making me so addicted to the darn thing!) and apparently you cannot wear headwear in your passport photo, so my application was d e l a y e d for almost too long. The group of people we are going with where freaking out. I tried to stay calm. Phew, it came in the mail yesterday. I packed yesterday afternoon, and will be gone for a whole week (my house will not be empty you boot stealing closet raiders!!) I have no idea if there will be internet access down there (I am not even really sure geographically where it is, lame I know, but we didn’t really plan this trip, someone else did) So etsy things and blogging things will be temporarily on hold. I know that I didn’t get things listed. Busy week. I am so sorry if you were counting on me for something. I will be more conscientious about not teasing in the future. That must be so annoying.
ANYWAY, The cool naked Harness is going with me. . . to wear OVER something I am sure . . .you crazy kids. I will take tons of DRESSED photos and post them if I have a chance while I am down there, or show and tell when I get back! I have never been on a vacation like this EVER EVER EVER so its pretty exciting to actually be able to get excited about it! I hope you have a really nice week next week too! I am not going to rub this in. . . like sunscreen while sitting on a white sandy beach, cocktail in hand, turquoise sea and dolphins just popping up to say hi. Ahhhhhhhh. So nice.
See ya, wouldn’t want to be ya!
Just kidding,
not really,
sorry!
This outfit is completely composed of things that can actually be bought in real stores (or online!) The dress is my pretty silk Shopmamie.com dress (that I wore in a foot of snow here)! The Mamie girls also have a great new blog you should check out. These shoes are new too! I know I said I was getting the Sweedish Hasbeens this year as my ONE SANDAL for spring, but when they arrived they were too narrow for my feet and the larger size was too long. I returned them with a tear, but then saw these in Lucky Magazine and got on my computer to buy them IMEDIATELY. They are so statementy and comfy! This hat was from the mens section at Mervyns I think it is Dockers. It WAS my husband's.
Allrrighty! Bye bye!

When: March 9, 2010
What: Necklace: courtesy of ShopMamie Striped Sweater: courtesy of ShopMamie Skirt: Target Booties: DSW
Where: Last minute errands and to the airport (I changed into flats and black skinnies for that)
Why: Just got this top in the mail today and put it on immediately. I like taking the black and white and adding in a little fun with the orange necklace and hot pink tights! The weather has been so beautiful this week that I’ve been playing with my timer and tripod and taking photos myself (which I haven’t done in nearly 9 months). I’m also trying to get back to my original intention of this blog - to have fun, to show you what I’m wearing and to not take it all too seriously. I feel like this week has been right on track.
The lovely Melanie from EverydayChic featured our Bryant Park Dress - See all the details here.
Something you should know about me: I exhaust the things I love. My favorite songs are played on repeat until everyone wants to throw my computer out the window, every Pushing Daisies and Arrested Development episode has been watched several times. I play specific scenes from Romeo + Juliet over and over and ever since Jeremy introduced me to this commercial, I'm pretty sure Kim and I have watched it ten times.
Clothing and accessories are no exception. I probably have about fifty pairs of shoes, but I always reach for the same select few. My bag? Until I find something comparable to switch it up a bit (it's the perfect bag for me), it is what I will use 90% of the time. And this bow belt - forget it. I wear it every other day, despite having an obscene collection of belts. I get comfortable with something and reach for it instinctively. Not to mention, since I wore them the other day, they happen to be within reach, draped over my chair or sitting next to the door. I haven't decided whether or not this is a habit that needs to be broken...maybe I should branch out a little more, though. I know you all must be tired of seeing the same thing over and over.
I did manage to infuse some life into my tired closet via my new fringe skirt, which came to me courtesy of Shop Mamie. I met Amy, one half of the Shop Mamie duo, during fashion week and the lot of us (Amanda, Samara and Kim included) were attached at the hip all day and night. I thought about wearing my new skirt the day we met up, but it's always a little awkward being that girl. I love the movement of fringe skirts (I still need to return Samara's to her...); it makes walking around so much more enjoyable. I have a tendency to strut a little more when there is something to be put in motion, especially when paired with a really great song on my iPod. I guess I like to pretend I'm living in a movie, soundtrack and all. Does anyone else do that?

Something just so fresh and American about a big, crisp button up paired with a bright pop of orange. This necklace is to die for! I am supposed to do a giveaway with it but I cannot part! It’s just the most fabulous thing!
I also wanted to say something about my hair in these photos - I feel most beautiful with wet hair. Actually the semi damp hair that’s not dripping wet but not totally dry. These photos sort of capture that.
We took these photos yesterday and guess what I’m wearing today? The exact same thing. That’s love.

I've really been digging the wavy look lately, so I knew I had to fire up my curling iron one last time before getting my hair cut this evening. As for the outfit, I remixed this tweed dress with light tights, a thin belt and simple black flats. Keep an eye out for the new hairstyle.
after this weekend’s promise after promise of a massive snowstorm, and my preparations to stay inside and drink cups and cups of hot chocolate, i was devastated when i kept looking out of the window and NO SNOW. not even a little. so, to cheer up, i got dressed up in this lovely gold dress.
the dress, courtesy of shop mamie, is made of a pretty gold fabric that very much resembles victorian wallpaper. i am such a fan of little party dresses, especially ones with poofy skirts.
even though it’s strapless, the dress works in pretty much any season. worn with a little black cardigan + coat in the winter, and strapless in the summer, i think it makes it pretty versatile.
and such a pretty skirt needed pretty accessories, so i paired it with these lacy floral tights, lots of gold bangles, my favorite glitter ring, and these fun new heels that were a gift from my friend gina (thanks, gina!)

With That Wanderlust You Fight
I was looking through some of the film I shot while in Japan. Big mistake. Now I keep thinking about going back, in the spring, for the cherry blossoms. It is quite unrealistic. But the vision persists. The photographs did remind me of how atmospheric I used to be with my shots. I framed all the pictures of friends (and strangers) with whatever elements were about: branches, windows, etc. There were always these blurred foreground shapes and objects that added depth to the portraits. So, here I am experimenting with that element again.

Okay, I don't know if you can tell, but my hair is getting super shaggy. I used to go months and months without a haircut, so I'm not used to this whole maintenance thing. Luckily, I do have an appointment on the horizon, but I may have to get creative in the next couple of weeks with this mop top.
Speaking of the swinging sixties, how about this adorable mod dress? I don't usually gush (do I?), but I'm totally gushing over this dress. The girls at ShopMamie.com sent it to me. It's actually meant to be a top, but combine a short stature with a size too big and, voila, you have a dress (albeit a mini one). I've actually been wanting a dress with a neckline like this for a long time, so I'm super excited. Also, its woolly texture reminded me that it's still winter. I was kind of getting lost in thoughts of spring...

This is actually what I wore yesterday for the brief period I was at work, I left early to head to Boston to celebrate my birthday with Chris. Since I knew I wasn't going to be in my office for too long, I chose to wear my go-to cold weather colors (red, orange, blue, brown) which made getting dressed fast and easy. The print on this cute skirt from Shop Mamie reminds me of early Andy Warhol shoe illustrations, the colors are perfect too- it'll match so much in my closet. Warhol's "factory work" is so well known, but the work I find most inspiring are his early illustrations for Harpers Bazaar and side projects. I have a book he illustrated called "Wild Raspberries" that is full of beautiful, loosely drawn illustrations of food that is just amazing.
Drinks and dancing with the girls is the PERFECT occasion for this cute little number. Shop Mamie was nice enough to send this Socialite Dress for me to style up. It's so soft and drapey and I love the opportunity to show a little shoulder now and again. At first, I was going to belt it over tights with some flats very much like Jessica did here, but with the temperatures dropping, I decided to throw a pair of baggy harems over the dress. And I LOVE the result. It's funny how a baggy look, cinched in at the waist can make me feel just as sexy, if not more so, than something body hugging. I'm super "pumped" (haha) for the chance to work with the girls from Shop Mamie. Like me, they're PSU grads, too! I love knowing the roots of a business and these stylish ladies have surely built their dream. And just like BCC, they're all about great looks on a budget. Woot! Woot!

...NOW, about this dress! It is gorgeous and floaty and silky and I love it so much!! It is more my style to take something that would be so obviously dressy and add beat up boots, slouchy oversized sweaters and a masculine fedora to tone down the look and make it great for everyday. This dress is from Shopmamie.com. One of the very few things I have that is NEW. Everything there is less than $100 and just sooooo cute and was started by two best friends named Amy and Megan. It is like every fashion girl's dream to start their own line of clothing and do well at it, and these girls actually took the plunge and did it! I may try to take pointers from them some day. How fun would it be to create high quality vintage reproductions from carefully selected, handmade textiles? Hmm. Pretty fun....

I’ve never worn anything with one sleeve before, but I love the way this outfit came together. I didn’t want to fight the neckline of the dress, so opted for a fancy belt and black tights (thank god it was dark, a little shaking it on the dance floor made it awfully short!) and some booties.
DECEMBER 29th: Tightwad Tuesday: Juicy Couture Glam Sweater Vest for Less

Juicy Couture Vest- $139.99 Shopmamie.com Vest- $38
At $139.99, I’m lucky if I can afford a single ruffle from this pretty, let alone the entire sweater. It’s simply out of my budget; a stylish pipe dream that I should promptly put out of my mind so as not to disappoint myself, let alone my wardrobe! Though maybe such a purchase is not so farfetched! While I may be unable to afford Juicy Couture’s gem of a cozy knit, I am quite capable of affording Shopmamie’s Ruffle Deep-V Vest.
At $38.00, the Ruffle Deep-V Vest – available in either charming Charcoal or posh Purple – is a stunning alternative that sports buttons in place of a zipper, and harbors two petite pockets, perfect for protecting all those love letters penned by cute boys safe from harm!
DECEMBER 18th: SOCIALITE FOR THE NIGHT
![]()
Anyone who knows me as well as all of you do is quite aware of my fondness of off the shoulder tops. I’m completely incapable of resisting such accoutrement given the fact that they provide a splash of seductiveness in the most coquettish and demure of ways. Thus, there was absolutely no question in my mind that Shopmamie’s One-Shoulder Socialite Dress was the frock destined to stand in as my date come the evening of December 31.

Six Light Jackets Under $100
Posted on Sep 21, 2009 3:00:00 PM | By MichelleMadhok
I’ll live in my light jacket for a month or so, but after that, it only comes out for strangely warm days or as a layer underneath a winter coat. So I don’t think it should cost a fortune (that winter coat is another story).
We had an easy time finding six fall-appropriate options under $100 by looking in slightly unexpected places (ShopMamie, a small site where everything’s in that budget, and Delia’s, which sells teen clothes) and at less-expensive fabrics (sophisticated jacket shapes in cotton jersey from Express and Modcloth).
Looking towards winter? Check our coat trends guide for this season’s styles.
9/15/09* - Shop Mamie also has a similar option for $44 available only in grey. If you'd like to purchase, please click here to do so (and don't forget to check out their other items - they have a lot of great stuff!).
Fall Fashion
The leaves are starting to turn, which is a sign for many of us that it’s time to churn the clothes in our closets. Away go the sundresses and shorts, out come the tights, sweaters and coats. While last year’s wardrobe will be perfectly serviceable, everyone deserves to incorporate a few new pieces to liven things up a bit.
This fall, look for a resurgence of colors from the ‘80s — the brighter the better. If you’re not ready for a day-glo top, start small, with bright tights and build from there. For the anti-bright, earth tones in oranges, nature-inspired greens and browns are sticking around.
Military-inspired garments abound, especially in outerwear. Look for embellishments like studs on jackets and vests. Plaid and houndstooth are hot, as are the omnipresent animal prints. Purple is all over this season, in every shade, from a jewel-toned plum to a vivid violet.
Everything old is new again, thanks to the ladies and gentlemen of “Mad Men.” That means anything vintage is hot, from a gentleman’s sharkskin suit to a tailored, navy dress for the ladies. Here are some of our favorite looks for fall, all from local stores and modeled by Allie Patterson, David Jones, Joy Wedge and Kaitlyn Minutola.

It's finally time to relegate the sweaters to the back of the closet, say goodbye to those big coats and welcome back your spring and summer clothes.
Reinvigorate your wardrobe this spring with an infusion of color. It's everywhere, from vivid yellows to pinks that really pop. Any color is good color this season, as long as there is plenty of it. The polka-dot is here to stay, and the ruffle is making a return appearance.
Ladies, when you go skirt shopping this year, look for the high waist. This trendy look is flattering on everyone, as it emphasizes your smallest part, and hides everything else. Keep an eye out for the long dress, which is also hot this spring. Don't shy away from crazy patterns or lots of color -- that's the look for spring of 2009.
